Diet, Health, Sex and Performance

Diet, Health, Sex and Performance

People are always asking about which diet and foods are best for them.  Some want to lose weight, others want to increase athletic performance and many just want to be healthier or just feel better.  Some just want more energy for better sex. They usually expect the recommendations to depend on the question or what they are trying to accomplish.  However, all of these objectives actually require the same basic raw materials.
Why?
You are what you eat and there are actually foods that are good for everyone and for every purpose…including better sex lives.  Although it will be somewhat qualified by most geneticists, the popular statement that we are all, regardless of race, genetically 99.9% the same, is true when looking at the big picture.  Putting individual food ideas or preferences aside, the fact is, our physiological and nutritional requirements from a genetic perspective are very similar if not identical.

Everyone has their own opinion about what the best diet is, but in actuality most modern diet preferences and recommendations are out of sync with our actual physiological requirements.  The closer you come to meeting these genetic based requirements, the better your body composition, performance and health will be.

The way our bodies work is miraculous.  We all seem to have the capability to survive and perform on a sub-optimal or even a poor diet for a long period of time.  Because it doesn’t immediately kill us or make us sick, we often think any “food” is fine if consumed in moderation.  Is this really true?

“For the majority of people, optimal health and physical performance along with any potential for genetic expression, good or bad, is almost entirely dependent on diet, lifestyle and environment.  When it comes to these areas, there are good choices, bad choices and very little in between.  This applies to all human beings.  When viewed from this perspective, ‘moderation’ is just an excuse to eat, drink and do anything you want,” says Tom Griesel, co-author of TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust.

Tom Griesel adds, “Modern humans evolved over hundreds-of-thousands if not millions of years.  As near as most anthropologists can tell, from a genetic perspective, we are also 99% the same as our ancestors who roamed the earth over 50,000 years ago.  During that time food was often scarce and they had to work for it.  The vast majority of our evolution was prior to the advent of agriculture (about 10,000 years ago), the industrial revolution (about 300 years ago), modern processed foods (about 120 years) and modern refined and packaged fast foods (about 50 years).   Even though our bodies and their basic physiological requirements remain virtually unchanged, what and how we eat today is dramatically different.  As a result, we are paying a heavy and unnecessary price.”
